Being based in Colorado gives us a front-row seat to the growth of the cannabis industry – both the triumphs AND the failures. But we are here to feature some of our favorites, and we are very excited to highlight one of the best in the (weed) biz – 1906 New Highs.
Honestly, crowning them a “weed biz” star isn’t giving them all the credit they are due. 1906 is a darling/leader/badass in the cannabis industry, but they are a brand showing us how it’s done when it comes to consumer products in general. We have referred to them as the “Warby Parker of weed” and we mean that in the BEST way possible, since Warby Parker is the example we will share with just about anyone when it comes to doing things like damn champions.
So let’s get to it!
Their Branding
Clean, Clever, Cool. Basically all the things we aspire to be. 1906 New Highs is proof that being clever doesn’t mean it needs to be complicated. They use delicious, jewel-tone shades of primary colors for each of their products balanced by simple white words. Their copy is educational, informative, and conversational – which means it is both easy and fun to read. 1906 knows what it is talking about and who it is as a brand, which is not as easy as it sounds.
Their Mission
1906 New Highs knows it is in an industry that deserves discussion. Rolling out a good product is one thing, but placing yourself in and even driving conversations that it may be easier to avoid is something else altogether. When it is easier to focus on your own bottom line but strive to better your community as a whole…that takes guts and it is GLORIOUS. They take on not just the conversation about legalizing weed but fighting for those who have been incarcerated for marijuana-related charges. 1906 is a brand with a great product that knows their responsibility as activists. Badass.
Their Mission

Their Product Roll-Out
It’s all about edibles and doing edibles REALLY well for 1906. When we talk about them like Warby Parker, a lot of it has to do with their incredible product roll-out. They started with chocolates – really f*cking good chocolates. And a key few in order to get it really, really right. Go gives you energy; Bliss makes you happy; Chill relaxes you; Midnight gives you an incredible night’s sleep; and Love…well, you probably get it. Straight-forward with impeccable quality control.
Instead of going crazy with product development when their popularity was at fever-pitch, they created a secondary delivery method for their products (drops that you swallow of their tried and true types of chocolates) and developed one more option for that method only. (That one is called Genius and I was a skeptic but one of those gives me just enough energy, focus, and inspiration to make me really get shit done.) One step at a time without compromising your product is absolutely the way forward and we should all take note.
You don’t have to use or even be a fan of cannabis to respect the hell out of 1906 New Highs. But if you do and are…go stock up, it’s worth it.
